This month has been one word. EPIC.
I started it off with an incredible drive back from Lake Tahoe. The scenery the the entire way is breathtaking, with mountains always in the horizon casting shadows late in the day that make you question if the world can really be that beautiful. Even after lots of travel in the two weeks prior, this drive made me want to road trip to explore so much more of this incredible country.
The next weekend, was Lamborghini Newport Beach’s monthly supercar show. This was potentially the greatest gathering of McLaren Sennas since the car was released. There were 7 Sennas there. Yes. Seven! While I didn’t appreciate the looks of the Senna when I first saw photos and videos of it, being around one (or seven 😁) makes you really appreciate the design and engineering that went into the Senna. The rear wing is hung from the mounts rather than supported from underneath to achieve more effective aerodynamic downforce. The wing is also big enough to serve a Thanksgiving dinner for a family of eight upon. One of the coolest features (technically an option but if you don’t get it, please don’t even bother ordering a Senna) is the clear door panel. Basically a window below the normal window showing how thin and light the doors were designed, this feature allows you to see the road beside you while driving. One owner said this takes some getting used to at first but is cool after that. Oh yeah. And, there were a couple dogs there as well!!!
The next weekend was Orange Country Festival of Speed. This was a gathering of supercars and other fun cars at AutoClub Speedway to raise money for the Special Olympics. Organized in large part by @dan_am_i and @speedy_jeff (their handles on Instagram) who brought out their incredible collections, the event attracted people from across the world. Niklas Lilja, the Koenigsegg test driver who drove the Agera RS to for the world speed record, came from Sweden to be part of the event. While it was an incredible car show in the first place with 5 Paganis, 5 Keonigseggs, and many other very rare cars, the coolest part was seeing these cars go on track. I never thought in my lifetime that I would see a Pagani Zonda driving in track and it was a very magical moment. While something sounded slightly off with the tune at partial throttle, it was still an incredible sight and sound to have the Zonda Cinque fly past on track. Rain put a slight damper on Saturday but it was fun getting detail shots of the cars with water droplets on them. I wasn’t able to go back on Sunday for the second day of the event but from pictures I saw, it was even more incredible than Saturday. The highlight had to be the Lamborghini Centenario driving on track. I can’t wait for this event again next year and to see what the rest of the year has in store as this was all in January!
